Cobweb Iced Sugar Cookies – Spooky, Sweet & Perfect for Halloween Baking

These Cobweb Iced Sugar Cookies are a spooky Halloween twist on classic sugar cookies. Crisp on the edges, soft in the center, and decorated with an easy spiderweb icing design—they’re perfect for parties, edible gifts, or baking with kids.

I first made these for a neighborhood Halloween potluck. I needed something impressive but simple enough to decorate in bulk. A few drops of black gel food coloring, a swirl of white royal icing, and a toothpick—that’s all it took to create beautiful cobweb cookies. And they disappeared faster than you can say “trick-or-treat.”

The cookie base is buttery and vanilla-scented, with just enough chew. You can make them ahead, freeze them undecorated, and ice them the day of your event. The icing hardens perfectly for stacking or packaging as favors.

Whether you’re hosting a haunted bash, filling lunchboxes, or delivering boo-baskets to neighbors, these cobweb sugar cookies are the ultimate eerie-sweet treat. No scary skills required!

  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • For the icing:
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 –2 tbsp milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • Black food coloring gel preferred

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and baking powder.

  4. Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until dough forms.
  5. Roll dough into 1 ½ inch balls. Place 2” apart and slightly flatten.
