  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Melted chocolate or black icing for decorating faces

  2. In a clean, dry bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy.
  3. Gradually add sugar, 1 tbsp at a time, while beating on high until stiff glossy peaks form.
  4. Beat in vanilla extract.
  5. Transfer meringue to a piping bag fitted with a round tip.
  6. Pipe bone shapes and ghost shapes onto the parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 1 hour, then turn off oven and let cookies sit inside for another hour to dry completely.
  8. Once cooled, decorate ghosts with melted chocolate or black icing for eyes.

Notes

  • Make sure no yolk gets into the egg whites, or the meringue won’t whip.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep crisp.
  • Use edible glitter for a magical ghostly effect.
